Described in municipal-ese as a 'Companion Animal Off-Leash Area', the Lin Gordon Reserve comprises a few hectares of Thirlmere bushland where you can let your dog(s) romp.'Smithers, release the companion animals. There are bush tracks to explore, but be aware that the area is bounded by private residences, so beyond certain points, signs advise that you must re-attach the lead, if you and your companion animal wish to proceed with the romping. The entrance area at the Oaks Road has a bench and a picnic table, as well as a doggy-do disposal bin. There are no human toilets or water supply. The reserve displays signs banning many things, but not dogs. This is native forest, so there is a warning about falling branches. The visitor in summer should consider the possibility of snakes, too.A sign also explains who Lin Gordon was. There is another entrance/exit to Lin Gordon Reserve at the western end of Albert Avenue, Thirlmere, but there is no car park, so the Oaks Road access is recommended.Lin Gordon Reserve is also a good place to watch birds. There is a creek where Bell Birds chime the day away. We saw a wombat burrow, too.
